Insomnia: types causes and treatment

Mental heath is one topic that is not spoken off extensively in Nigeria ,that is why it will surprise people to know that there are more than 1.5 million people suffering from insomnia cases per year in Nigeria,
professionals have stated that Treatment can help, but the condition can’t be cured. It is also believe to be self-diagnosable.



First of all what is insomnia?

Insomnia is said to be a sleep disorder where by an individual has troubles falling and/or staying asleep.

The condition is categoried into (acute) short term it takes at least 1 night to a few weeks.

While the (chronic) long time insonmni a can last for at least 3nighrt to 3months

As started above , “quite a number of cases of insomnia are due to poor sleeping habits,lack of exercise depression, anxiety, and chronic illness or even some certain priscribed and un-prescribed medication”.

According to(WebMD.com ), there are two types of insomnia the primary and secondary insomnia. The site went further to define them as follows;
Primary insomnia: This means your sleep problems aren’t linked to any other health condition or problem.

Secondary insomnia: This means you have trouble sleeping because of a health condition (like asthma, depression, arthritis, cancer, or heartburn); pain; medication; or substance use (like alcohol).


Insomnia Causes

Some of the causes of insomnia include ,life changing events like job Los or change, death of loved one, divorce stress unpleasant noise and even temperature, shift in work schedule, lack of exercise, drinking and bullying can cause insomnia.
