Nigerian – British actor, John Boyega known for his impressive performance in “star wars: the force awakens”, and “half of a yellow sun” by Biyi Bandele ” is set to develop non-English language films that is focused on west and east Africa.
The production company made it known that it’s body of work will have a focus, they said that;
“they will develop film projects based on stories, cast, characters, crew, literary properties, mythology, screenplays and/or other elements in or around African countries.”
With this deal with Netflix, the upper room entertainment limited boss has hinted that he is looking to replicate the success he has as an actor in his producing endeavor. boyega’s Upper room which was co-founded in 2016 facilitated boyega’s first producing credit for “Pacific Rim: Uprising,” He also has co produced for the Universal sci-fi tentpole film. he has also executively produced “God is good ”
While reacting to the deal earlier on boyega said that “I am thrilled to partner with Netflix to develop a slate of non-English language feature films focused on African stories, and my team and I are excited to develop original material,” said Boyega. “We are proud to grow this arm of our business with a company that shares our vision.”
While making a statement about Netflix’s move in Africa David Kosse, one of the companies executive said that, “Africa has a rich history in storytelling, and for Netflix, this partnership with John and UpperRoom presents an opportunity to further our investment in the continent while bringing unique African stories to our members both in Africa and around the world,”
