“When They See Us” is the true story of the ‘Central Park Five’, in 1989, five black youngsters who were all teenagers were convicted to for the raping of a jogger in Central Park (NYC).
though they insisted they innocent, the system was used against them and they were all sent to prison to serve different prison sentences. the Central Park Five’ as they are called were exonerated when the perpetrator confessed everything in 2002.

in a bit to expose those involved, and the dirt in the system, Director Ava DuVernay (director of the movie Selma) took special interest in their story, the main aim of the film was to expose the problems of racism and the prison system in the USA.
